The sixth stage of the Tour of Turkey saw more drama and excitement hit the already great edition of the Turkish race, as the peloton travelled 182 kilometres from Bodrum to Selcuk. The finish was uphill, and so was likely to feature the race leader Rein Taaramae along with the challengers Adam Yates and Merhawi Kudus.

A move went away as soon as the flags dropped for the start of the race, Arman Kamyshev of Astana was joined by Matthias Krizek (Cannondale), Andre Greipel (Lotto-Belisol), Javier Aramendia (Caja Rural), Adrian Kurek (CCC Polsat) and Wesley Kreder of Wanty Groupe-Gobert. A group of riders tried to bridge the gap in the first part of the stage but in the end they gave up.

Kamyshev dropped out of the breakaway after around fifty kilometres, but the rest of the break worked well together and reached a peak lead of around five and a half minutes. The peloton weren't going to let them have a sniff of a stage win however, and with thirty kilometres to go the break was back in the peloton. The race for the bottom of the final climb commenced.

The peloton soon splintered as the fast paced peloton hit the climb, and Adam Hansen of Lotto-Belisol was the first man to put in attack. He gained a few seconds, but he was brought back by the chasers. Adam Yates of Orica-GreenEDGE was the next man to attack, but no one else immediately followed, with race leader Rein Taaramae looking under pressure.

Yates cracked the chasers, and went on to win the stage solo. The 21 year old has made his big break at this year's Tour of Turkey and now holds the race lead by one second over a dejected Rein Taaramae. Davide Rebellin, the 42 year old rider for CCC Polsat Polkowice managed a great result to get third on the stage, showing a real gulf between the riders at the top end of the Tour of Turkey.
